What is Expanded Polystyrene ( EPS) ?

Expanded Polystyrene also known as EPS is a rigid, thermoplastic foam and closed cell material. It is produced from solid beads of polystyrene, polymerised from styrene monomer and contains an expansion gas dissolved within the polystyrene bead.

Each solid polystyrene bead has small amounts of gas so it expands when heat (in streaming) is applied, thus forming closed cells of EPS. These expanded cells occupy approximately 40 times the volume of the original polystyrene bead. Then, with a second heat treatment using a mold, large EPS blocks can be molded into specific customized shapes.
